MOLDS & TOOLING
This aluminum tool is one of a set made by PROTOGENESIS for its client, Specialty Manufacturing Inc., a supplier of custom thermoformed plastic products. The tools are used to pressure form the components of a portable computer docking station specifically designed for the medical industry. |
What is a Mold? Molds are cavities or hollow forms into which molten plastic is poured to form a desired shape when the plastic cools. Similarly, the type of tooling manufactured by PROTOGENESIS includes other forms for shaping molded plastics. PROTOGENESIS has extensive experience building tools for thermoforming - both vacuum forming and pressure forming. Our company also excels in making tools for shaping composites. PROTOGENESIS most often provides molds and tooling made from aluminum reinforced thermoset plastics and even wood can be used for some prototype and low volume applications. |

This is another pressure forming tool made by PROTOGENESIS for Specialty Manufacturing, Inc. It is a large cover. Dimensions are 18"x18"x12". Note the tool was split to accommodate small bottom radii. The tool was then assembled. No seam marks were visible on formed part. |

Injection mold tooling was fabricated by PROTOGENESIS for successful, new Kendall GelThoticstm SupportXGeltm shoe inserts. reinforced thermoset plastic molds made directly from a three-dimensional CAD design are used in the manufacture of the shoe inserts. Aluminum vacuum form tools made from the same CAD design are used to make the packaging. |
